Boost Your Immune System – My Top Tricks This Holiday Season

In these crazy times we’re told to wear masks and wash our hands, but sometimes we forget about how to boost our natural immune system. Here are my top tricks to stay healthy during these COVID times:

1.) Eat Fresh Ginger – I like to cut it up into squares, freeze it and put them in my smoothies

2.) Garlic- If you start to feel sick chop into pill sized pieces and swallow whole . I do it this way because I hate chewing it raw. If you have to be in close quarters with people this might make you less undesirable, sometimes you gotta weigh your consequences 😉

3.) Eat Superfoods: Beets, Kale, Carrots, blueberries, flaxseeds, chia seeds, avocado – Eat things that are rich in vitamins that will boost your immune system. There are also many herbs and spices that you can cook with that will add to your overall health. Turmeric, garlic, ginger, and citrus are all things that not only taste good but add immune boosting effects to your cooking.

4.) Sleep- Sleep is one of the most important factors to staying healthy. Think of it like a reset button for your body. Most people need 7 to 9 hours of sleep a night. With a good diet and regular exercise, your body will “crave” those generous hours of sleep.

5.) Exercise -getting enough sleep and staying active will boost your immune system. Not only is exercise good for you physically, but just getting outside for a run in the fresh air is good for your state of mind. Going to the gym and working out gets your metabolism running. Blood flow and working your muscles is not only  good for your immune system, but your mental health as well.

5.) Eliminate excess drinking – this is always a tough one around the holidays, but by eliminating excess drinking you will avoid a lot of empty calories and those dreaded hang overs.

6.) Vitamins-  Figure out what you should be taking for your age and health issues and take them regularly. I take B6, magnesium, fish oil, milk thistle, zinc, collagen,

7.) Self care and Relaxation: Stress is the worst thing to do to your body, emotionally and physically. Stress is known to create illness. That is why it is important to balance your stress levels by practicing self care. Get a massage, take the beautiful route on your morning walks, get a facial or pedicure, draw a hot bubble bath, or simply have a good laugh! Just remember to slow down, take a deep breath and relax.

Please share any other tips in the comments below that you use to stay healthy.

Happy Holidays!!
